Luck – Divine-Dust of Fate Copy link

Divine-Dust, known among scavengers as “Glimmer”, is the shimmering residue of gods undone—a substance born from the catastrophic detonations of deity-warriors during the ancient battles against Xantyr, the Deity of Fate. This fine, glittering particulate drifts across Rhuna’s most haunted places—its shattered coastlines, its drowned caverns, and the ruins of once-divine battlefields.

To the untrained eye, Glimmer resembles powdered gemstones or metallic sand. Under calm light, it gleams with a soft golden hue, but when agitated by Thread disturbances or drawn into a Luck-infused event, it ignites into violent iridescence—colors twisting like storm-winds, shadows writhing within the light. Some claim that in perfect silence, Glimmer hums with the voices of the unmade, whispering forgotten names and fates that never came to pass.

The Nature of Divine-Dust – The Substance of Broken Fate Copy link

Divine-Dust is unstable by design. Unlike the ordered Threads of Balance or the polarized forces of Chaos and Order, Glimmer is Fate unbound, a force torn from Xantyr’s unraveling of destiny during the Detonation at Seradine. This eruption ripped apart not only gods but also the very principles of consequence—shattering causality into countless fragments. Each particle of Glimmer carries this instability within it.

In its raw form, Divine-Dust is dangerous beyond measure. Inhaled or ingested, it fuses with the user’s essence, rewriting their destiny in unpredictable ways. Some gain miraculous power—superhuman strength, heightened senses, flashes of omniscient insight. Others suffer catastrophic ruin—spontaneous mutations, unraveling Threads, or complete erasure from existence. A rare few become something in-between, neither alive nor dead, their souls fused to reality itself in ways that defy comprehension.

Handling Divine-Dust requires ritualized caution. Scavengers who harvest it along the Glimmering Coast often test each grain through traditional “silence rites”—holding it in stillness, listening for its hum, and gauging its temper by how violently it reacts. To ignore such practices is to gamble not only one’s life but one’s place in existence itself.

The Birth of Luck – The Fragments of Seradine Copy link

The origin of Luck lies in one of Rhuna’s most devastating events: the Detonation at Seradine. In that ancient clash, the Deity-Warriors of Balance stood against Xantyr’s machinations—a battle not of armies, but of destinies themselves. When Seradine exploded, the Weave of Fate ruptured. The resulting shockwave obliterated divine hosts, leaving behind a storm of disembodied intent: particles of chance, risk, and consequence, now scattered across the world.

For centuries, these fragments drifted unseen, carried along hidden current-lines of energy and time. They eventually pooled in rare places where reality thinned—most notably along the Azure Veil’s tide-lanes, from which the Meridian Empire would one day harvest them. To the Meridians, this discovery was not a curse, but an opportunity—a chance to wield fate itself.

The Meridian Gamble – Harnessing Luck Copy link

When the Meridians first found Glimmer washing ashore, they thought it a natural treasure—rare, potent, and mysterious. Scholars tried to study it; warlords tried to weaponize it; Threaders tried to weave it. All failed to control it. What they discovered, instead, was a truth that reshaped their culture: Luck cannot be mastered—it can only be risked.

Thus was born the Lottery of the Divine, a ritualized gamble that transformed Luck from an uncontrolled substance into a revered trial of ascension. To enter the Lottery was to place one’s fate directly in the hands of chance, to embrace the chaos of Glimmer fully and without illusion.

The Lottery of the Divine – The Gamble of Life and Death Copy link

The Lottery of the Divine is conducted at sacred Gambler’s Altars along the Glimmering Coast and within the Tidal Pools of the Meridian heartlands. The ritual unfolds in three stages:

The Binding Gamble – The participant is given a Luckstone, a concentrated core of Divine-Dust, placed in their hands while they speak their Pact of Chance, a vow to accept whatever fate decrees. As the stone merges with their essence, their soul becomes a canvas upon which Luck will paint.

The Spin of the Fates – The stone dissolves within them, rewriting their Threads in an instant. This transformation can be euphoric or excruciating: a mortal might erupt into celestial flame, see themselves aged backward into infancy, or fracture into multiple selves. The process is irreversible.

The Judgment of Fate – The participant either emerges transformed—blessed with powers beyond mortal comprehension—or destroyed. Some become Tide-Touched, walking legends marked by their survival. Others perish utterly, their remains dissolving into Glimmer, feeding the cycle for the next gambler.

The Lottery’s outcomes are as varied as they are unpredictable. Among the most celebrated blessings are:

• The Undying – Immortality granted by unbroken Threads.

• The Titanborn – Superhuman strength, bodies like celestial stone.

• The Star-Marked – Prophets with visions of the Weave’s hidden patterns.

• The Ember-Forged – Souls wreathed in eternal, controlled flame.

• The Skybound – Freed from gravity’s pull, walking air as though solid ground.

But with such miracles come terrors:

• The Withered – Lives burned away in an instant, bodies left as husks.

• The Hollow-Touched – Emptied of self, existing only as hollow vessels.

• The Living Death – Caught between life and rot, unable to truly die.

• The Fractured – Minds split into countless selves, each clawing for dominance.

• The Eclipsed – Walking anomalies that warp time and space wherever they go.

And there are those worse still—the Unspoken, whose fates cannot even be defined. Some vanish into other dimensions, others merge with landscapes, becoming sentient storms or living mirrors. They are no longer mortal, nor truly anything at all.

Luck as Weapon and Currency – The Meridian Wager Copy link

The Meridian Empire wields Luck as both tool and terror. Elite soldiers known as The Wagered Sons undergo the Lottery to create unmatched warriors—living unpredictability on the battlefield. Nobles settle disputes not with duels, but by forcing rivals into the Lottery: a gamble where survival itself determines legitimacy.

Criminals sentenced to the Reckoning Pools face Luck as punishment; some emerge as powerful agents of the state, others disappear forever. Among the wealthy, Divine Bets have become spectacles, where champions willingly risk their existence for fortune, power, or eternal renown.

The Curse of Xantyr – Fate’s Hidden Hand Copy link

Despite its cultural prominence, Luck carries an inescapable shadow: Xantyr’s lingering will. Many believe that each use of Glimmer feeds him, subtly tightening his hold on destiny. Whispers speak of Black Luck, a variant of the Lottery where outcomes are no longer random, but chosen—rigged by an unseen, malevolent force. Those who gamble too often begin to exhibit strange patterns: their victories feel too precise, their losses too perfectly timed, as though their lives are already written.

Conclusion – The Eternal Gamble Copy link

Luck is Rhuna’s great temptation: the promise of power without cost—until the cost arrives. It is the final remnant of a divine war, the echo of Fate shattered and yet unbroken, forever waiting to see who will dare to cast the next lot.

To hold Divine-Dust is to clutch the bones of gods, to wager your own Thread against a force that cannot be predicted, bargained with, or controlled. The Meridians know this better than anyone—and still, they play.

For in Rhuna, Luck is never fair. It simply is.
