Rhunera – The Living School of Threads Copy link

"To know the breath of a beast is to know the wind that shapes the grass. To tend the root is to heal the hand that harvests it. All life is bound, and in the Rhunera, we learn to read the knots and keep them from fraying." – Vaethi N’Shevah, Grand Rootseer of the Rhunera

Overview Copy link

Rhunera is the Ereth’s sacred and scholarly institution, a living sanctuary dedicated to the study, governance, and preservation of all living matter on Rhuna. It serves as both academy and tribunal, healer and lawkeeper, gathering the world’s deepest secrets of threaded life and weaving them into purpose. Founded over a thousand years ago in the heartwood of Erendor, Rhunera operates under the authority of the Circle of Rhunera, a council of three equal branches: the Shevah, Tavahnu, and Kharume. Each branch oversees its own domain—flora, fauna, or mortals—but all work together to maintain the planet’s ecological and threaded balance. While deeply Ereth in origin, the Rhunera welcomes students, envoys, and researchers from across Rhuna, provided they prove themselves willing to uphold its oaths. Training here is not temporary; it is rigorous, lifelong, and transformative.

Purpose and Duties Copy link

The Rhunera’s role extends far beyond that of a simple school. It is the living heart of conservation and balance, serving as the Threaded Conservation Authority, monitoring the health and spread of threaded plants and animals. As an Ecological Tribunal, it decides when species or environments require intervention, relocation, or even protection from mortal overreach. It acts as a Cultural Mediator, negotiating with kingdoms, guilds, and tribes to enforce laws safeguarding life cycles, migrations, and sacred territories. When the Wither threatens to consume life, the Rhunera becomes a Purge Unit, coordinating swift and decisive action to halt the corruption. And through its Living Archive—the Great Canopy Codex—it records the ever-changing tapestry of life on Rhuna, preserving knowledge for generations yet to come.

The Three Branches Copy link

The Rhunera is guided by the belief that no single perspective can govern life. Its strength lies in the unity of its three branches, each bringing its own mastery to the whole.

The Shevah, or Speakers of Roots, are the guardians of forests, crops, and fungal webs. They weave the Green, Violet, and Yellow Threads into living wards, heal blights, and nurture ecosystems to flourish without tipping into imbalance.

The Tavahnu, or Walkers with Beasts, are protectors of animal life and the delicate balance between predator and prey. They wield Red, Yellow, and Violet Threads to guide migrations, soothe stampedes, and hunt down corrupted or invasive creatures that threaten the world’s harmony.

The Kharume, or Binders of the Living, serve as diplomats and regulators, bridging the needs of mortals, flora, and fauna. They wield all five Threads to negotiate treaties, enforce environmental laws, and ensure that civilization itself remains in step with the cycles of the land.

Together, these three branches form the Circle of Rhunera, ensuring that no decision is made without the voices of root, beast, and mortal alike.

Location and Architecture Copy link

The Rhunera is not a fortress of stone but a living complex grown from the bones of Erendor’s oldest forest. Its structures rise from the land itself, seamlessly woven into the environment rather than imposed upon it. The Roothall stands at its heart, a monumental chamber formed from the fused trunks of three colossal trees, their living bark carved with sigils of the Threads. In the high canopy, the Canopy Chambers serve as training halls, dappled in filtered sunlight and filled with the songs of birds. Along the riverbanks lies the River Archive, a living library where knowledge is kept alive on vine-racks, its leaf-scrolls constantly tended by Shevah botanists. Suspended between the branches are the Sky-Perches, the Tavahnu lodges where bonded animals roost and train alongside their keepers. Connecting canopy and ground is the Spiral Bridge, a marvel of Kharume craft, its living vines and stone intertwined in perfect harmony, carrying travelers between earth and sky without harming a single tree.

Oaths and Initiations Copy link

To join the Rhunera is to pledge oneself to the Oath of the Living Knot. Every initiate swears to protect the sanctity of all life cycles, to act with balance rather than greed, to prevent harm from crossing realms—be it invasive species, overharvesting, or mortal excess—and to purge the Wither wherever it may take root. This oath is marked upon the initiate’s palm with a Thread-Knot Sigil, a living ink of woven threads that shifts color to reflect their chosen branch. To bear this mark is to carry responsibility, for in the Rhunera, one is not merely a student of nature but its guardian, judge, and servant.
