Solvanyr, the Steadfast Keep “We do not dwell in fortresses—we become them.” — Inscription above the Gate of Teeth, Solvanyr
Origins of the Daathru Copy link
The Daathru are Orvah whose traditions are devoted to Order, their very flesh a testament to permanence, order, and endurance. Where the Tyrru embody Balance and the Uthuru exalt Chaos, the Daathru are the unyielding bastion of Order. They are amalgamations of predator and beast, fused into living fortresses: hides like stone, manes like lions, fangs like serpents, and bones that carry the weight of law. Their bodies are marked with glowing sigils of geometric symmetry, which brighten when they act as arbiters of Order. To mortals they appear as statues come alive, sculpted by a divine hand; to themselves, they are the living blueprints of endurance.
The first Daathru arose from the tangled union of life-orbs, severed Threads, beast, landscape, and mortal possibility in the wake of the War of the Severed Threads. Their Valanark, Telmatha, the Unbreaking Stag, had been a Zaltar before destruction and transformation through the life-orbs. He guided the Daathru toward Order; neither he nor his people were fragments of Zal herself. The Daathru later anchored themselves to the bones of Vendrath, a ruined Gahlian citadel, stabilizing its broken foundations rather than erasing its history.

Solvanyr rises from the peaks of Vendrath in northern Duranel, its terraces glowing gold under dawn as though Zal herself still blesses the walls. Its spires grow seamlessly from the stone, its halls inscribed with radiant runes that breathe faint light at dusk. To the Daathru, Solvanyr is more than home—it is proving ground, temple, and fortress all at once. Every wall, every stair, every echoing hall embodies the principle that Order must not simply be studied but lived.
Vendrath itself remains a paradox. Once a jewel of the Gahlian clans, it was abandoned after the tyranny of Tarnik Solum, whose Wither-cursed reign silenced its singing walls. When the Daathru arrived centuries later, they did not erase its history. They stabilized it. They propped broken arches, inscribed sigils into fractured walls, and wove their own structures into the ruin without hiding its scars. Today, Vendrath is half-ruin, half-fortress—a living reminder that Order does not erase chaos but reshapes it into function.

At the heart of Daathru society is the Valanark, the Unbreaking Stag, Telmatha, once a fallen Zaltar and transformed through life-orbs amid the Red and Green Threads. The Valanark does not rule as monarch but as arbiter, interpreter, and final word of the Sacred Pattern—the divine lattice that guides all Daathru. From Solvanyr’s terraces, the Stag watches, dreams, and issues edicts that ripple outward like lines of symmetry across society.
Beneath the Valanark are the Order-Tier, philosophers and architects who decipher the Sacred Pattern and translate its harmonies into cities, courts, and strategies. The Iron March forms the martial backbone of Daathru strength: battalions drilled with geometric precision, their maneuvers as much ritual as tactic. The Stratacaste serves as civil stewards, lore-keepers, and issuers of Judgment Sigils, ensuring that no thread becomes tangled. At the bottom are the Root-Bound, novices who must wrestle with their inner Tangle through the Purpose Trials before being Woven into their destined place. Those who fail or reject the Pattern become the Fractured—exiles marked by inverted sigils, left to wander until they return willingly to Order.

Every Daathru is born into tangle, a knot of chaos that must be straightened before they are granted a true name. This is done through four great trials. The Pattern Mirror forces them to confront their flaws and contradictions reflected in light and illusion. The Sigil of Choice tests their ability to impose structure upon moral paradoxes and logistical failures. The Tangle Reversal takes them deep into their soul-thread, where they must weave meaning from their inner chaos rather than destroy it. The final trial, the Voice of Law, demands they articulate their role in the Sacred Pattern through a spoken decree. If the amphitheater’s floor glows in resonance, they are anointed with the Sigil of Form and granted their true name. If not, they return to their studies until the Pattern calls again.
Sub-Species of the Daathru Copy link
Though united under the Valanark, the Daathru are not uniform. Three great subgroups embody different faces of Zal’s Order:
The Tharvann, Stonewardens The immovable guardians of Daathru society. Towering colossi with hides like river stone, tusks, horns, or thick plates of flesh. They embody the virtue of endurance, standing as living walls against Wither incursions and chaos-born predators. To their kin they are patience given form; to outsiders, they are the immovable barricade.
The Vorclast, Lawbearers The executors of judgment and tacticians of Order. Sleek, predatory figures with leonine manes, serpent fangs, or piercing eyes. Their markings blaze like glyphs when they pass judgment, binding those around them in fields of radiant law. They are judges, commanders, and lawgivers whose words carry weight beyond steel.
The Eryndral, Threadbinders Mystics and architects of invisible law. Slender and elongated, often with serpent coils, insect wings, or leafy crests that shimmer like woven sigils. They weave Red and Green Threads into lattices that stabilize fractured ground, mend Wither-tainted regions, and bind chaos into function. To mortals they may seem otherworldly, but to the Daathru they are the blueprint given voice.

The Daathru culture is marked by sacred artifacts and practices that embody Order itself. The Sigilbrand is a sacred weapon granted to the Horns of Varn, glowing heavier against oathbreakers and duller against the repentant. The Crests of Threads are mantles woven with red-green sigils, donned only by those who complete the Path of the Ironborn. Judgment Sigils are luminous seals issued by the Stratacaste, compelling disputes to cease until Order is restored.
Every day is structured around cadence and bearing. Children learn on the Beacon-Stairs, steps that ring if trod in harmony and fall silent when one falters. At midday work pauses across Solvanyr for the Still Hour, when Daathru examine their inner balance and the obligations they are carrying. Elders mark their scars in winter with ink, turning them into maps of memory in a rite called Scarmapping.

The Daathru are respected, feared, and mistrusted in equal measure across Erevath. The Duranine admire their enduring craft and often collaborate on great works of architecture. The Meridians consult them as advisors on Thread-containment, though the Daathru view the lottery rites of Vanthis with suspicion. The Ereth share mutual reverence for endurance and craft, often debating structure over centuries. Relations with the Imari are a study in tension—where the Daathru build walls, the Imari weave veils. The Corvians respect their law but dislike their interference in contracts, while the Gahlians remain haunted by Vendrath’s memory. The Uthuru and Veldraken are frequent enemies, embodying the chaos the Daathru are sworn to restrain.

Vendrath stands as both scar and sanctuary. Its stained glass lies shattered, its basalt walls cracked, yet within these ruins glow Daathru sigils that pulse like a heartbeat. The Iron March drills in its courtyards, the Eryndral weave lattices through its fractures, and the Valanark dreams upon its terraces. Gahlian banners still hang tattered in the wind, not torn down but left as warnings.
Here the Daathru embody their paradox: refinement through ruin, strength through scars. They are not saviors nor tyrants, but scaffolding reborn—the lattice upon which the world may rebuild itself. For in the eyes of Zal and the echo of the Stag, Order is not stillness. It is endurance.
