Karuhl Dyne – The Forge of Reflections "The shard is not wound nor weapon, but mirror. In it we see not what we are, but what we must become." – Prismarite Athyrel of the Root-Cathedral
The Shardlands of Esamar Copy link
Esamar is no ordinary land but a frozen battlefield where the Moon itself has collided with Rhuna for millennia. Across its tundras and glaciers lie craters of silver fire, each marking the place where fragments of Kar’s essence—Kar-shards—have struck the world. Every impact reshapes the Shardlands: glaciers fracture, storms awaken, auroras ripple like wounds in the sky. Out of these scars rise the star-trees, crystalline pines that root themselves around shards, drawing divine ore and auroral light into their veins.
The Shardlands are a living paradox—both sanctuary and peril. Shardgroves blaze faint silver-green in the night, their roots humming like chords of frozen song. The Moonveil Glaciers refract moonlight so brilliantly that night often burns brighter than day. And in the Falling Grounds, endless craters echo with whispers of fractured reflections, half-formed illusions of beings long since forgotten. To the north, the Star-Pines of Northmere burn with cold blue flame, their timber reserved only for divine forges. Beneath the earth stretch the Ice Vaults of Memory, crystalline catacombs where unstable shards are entombed in enchanted frost, guarded forever by the Veilbound.
In Esamar, the land is never still. Shardfall storms scour the tundra, mirror-wraiths emerge from unstable fragments, and reflections of lost souls bleed through into reality. Yet the Karthine thrive here, forged to stand sentinel where divine law collides with mortal soil.

The City of Karuhl Dyne Copy link
Karuhl Dyne, capital of the Karthine, was raised upon the site of the largest shardfall in history. Here, a moon-shard the size of a mountain pierced the Dynecrag Range and embedded itself like a silver spine in the stone. Around this divine wound, the Karthine built their shining citadel, half-rooted in star-trees, half-carved from crystalline ore.
The city is austere and radiant, every hall echoing like frozen glass, every bridge and tower refracting moonlight into spectral fire. The Forge-Vault burns at its core, a sacred furnace where Luniel—the alloy of Kar and Zal’s sanction—is smelted into blades, armor, and sanctified constructs. Beside it stand the Materialization Chambers, where new Karthine are etched into being, their reflective sigils binding them to the eternal order of Kar. Presiding over these rites is the Summoner, who reads the shard’s resonance and Kar’s alignments in the sky, determining when new Astralkin must be called into existence.
Landmarks of the Capital Copy link
• The Stillflame Dome – A towering observatory where shardlight and moonlight are fused into silver fire, guiding the Summoner’s visions.
• The Refraction Spire – A crystalline tower that splits moonlight into seven radiant beams, each representing one of the Refraction castes of the Karthine.
• The Root-Cathedrals – Vaulted sanctums where star-tree roots pierce directly into the city, their living veins worshiped as conduits of divine order. Prismarites sing rites of sorrow, clarity, and reflection here.
• The Star-Forges – Massive furnaces deep beneath the Dynecrags where Luniel is tempered by star-pine flame, birthing weapons and relics of prismatic power.
• The Frostbridge Causeway – An immense arch of root and ice spanning the Dynechasm, guarded by Dynewardens whose shields shimmer with the current moon phase.
• The Memory Vaults – Silent, frozen caverns at the shard’s root, filled with fractured relics, unstable shards, and echoes of failed Refractions. The Veilbound keep eternal vigil here, listening for whispers of truth or corruption within the frost.
The Role of Shards and Star-Trees Copy link
To the Karthine, no shardfall is accident. Each is a deliberate reflection, drawn into Rhuna by Zal’s sanction through the Moon’s veil. Star-trees are sacred anchors, ensuring the shards do not unravel into chaos. Their ore-seeds are harvested to forge weapons, their roots woven into temples, their fires kindled only for sacred rites.
Every Karthine bears within them the reflection of shard and tree: bones that resonate faintly with Luniel, eyes gleaming like mirrored wells, skin and form etched with the memory of the fragment from which they were born. To destroy a star-tree is heresy. To neglect one is ruin, for its unchecked roots may awaken mirror-wraiths or birth Wither-born reflections.
The Nature of the Karthine in Karuhl Dyne Copy link
The city is less a capital than a forge of identity. Here the Karthine are tempered: warriors of reflection, wardens of shards, and keepers of celestial law. They are born not into luxury but into purpose, each life a fragment of Kar’s ongoing will. Their rituals are cold and luminous, their culture one of austerity and vigilance. Every shardfall is seen as both a gift and a wound, and every life within Karuhl Dyne is bound to ensuring that Rhuna may survive the union of divine order and mortal world.
To mortals, Karuhl Dyne seems alien—a place of silver silence and austere brilliance, where even shadows seem symmetrical. To the Karthine, it is home, the greatest shardfall sanctum, the Forge of Reflections, where moon and world are bound forever.
